With the release of A Simple Favour, which follows Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) as she tries to work out what really happened to her missing best friend Emily (Blake Lively), we thought we’d take an in-depth look at some of the most mysterious disappearing acts of our generation.

To Our Daughter

There is no denying how influential Kylie Jenner is, so when she took a slight breather from social media and a step back out of the public’s eye in 2017 rumours started spreading as to why. The most popular theory was that the youngest Jenner was pregnant with boyfriend Travis Scott’s baby. A series of clues were left like breadcrumbs over a period of time; Kylie changing the theme of her Instagram feed to pink (hinting to a gender reveal?), starring alongside then-pregnant sister Khloe Kardashian in promoting their Lip Kits, and a sprinkling of various indirect social media hints.

It wasn’t until about 9 months later when the world was finally given an answer in the form of a video entitled To Our Daughter, a documented visual showing the journey that had been going on behind closed doors; concluding with the birth of Kylie’s first daughter Stormi.

Where's Emily?

1st May 2018: the date when Blake Lively deleted all of her Instagram content along with unfollowing everyone (including husband Ryan Reynolds) except 36 women with the name of Emily Nelson. Confusion spread, along with frenzied excitement from the lucky few Emilys.

Fortunately, the wait for answers didn’t last too long and Lively made herself known again. The vanishing act was to pay homage to her character Emily in A Simple Favour, who mysteriously goes missing.

Don’t worry - hers and Reynolds’ relationship now also seems back on track, and he’s back on the follow list.

There's people that are dying, Kim!

Now this may be the most mysterious case on the list, perhaps even the most mysterious case ever involving a Kardashian. You guessed it; the case of the missing earring. Last seen flying off of Kim Kardashian’s ear, into the crystal-clear Bora Bora ocean. The item is said to be worth around $75,000 so you can imagine how distraught those involved were.

The case is still currently open as the earing has regrettably never been found. What a tragedy.

A Noughties comeback

The Noughties: a weird and wonderful decade featuring the rise of a wide, wide range of musical talent. One of these being our very own Craig David. He skyrocketed to success after his debut album in the early 2000s, which even got voted as the second best “Greatest Album of All-Time” by MTV viewers. Sadly, as the years went on David slowly started disappearing from our airwaves, but have no fear because he resurfaced again with a hit album in 2016 which made it his first number-one album since his debut, and he continues to bless us with his music to this day.

Snaky

The case: Similar to Blake Lively’s, all pictures and posts inexplicably deleted across Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and even official website.

The victim/perpetrator: Taylor Swift.

In 2017 all content on all of her social platforms were wiped, making fans become understandably anxious. The feed remained empty until a series of 3 separate videos were posted to her Instagram and Twitter, which when combined made up an image of a black snake. It was after this that the biggest theory was confirmed; some new music was on its way.

The speculation was correct and Swift released her Reputation album.

Case solved.

Original Sunny D

If Sunny D wasn’t the absolute drink of your nineties childhood, then you were really missing out on something special. It was a phenomenon that tasted amazing for kids, while the parents were just happy that their children weren’t demanding fizzy drinks as often. Unfortunately, when word got out that the drink was only a small percentage of actual juice and the rest was just pure sugar, sales started to decline much to the disappointment of the young consumers. Sunny D seemed no more.

They did however rebrand themselves, making a comeback in 2010. But it’s safe to say the nostalgia has never quite tasted the same.

A Simple Favour is out now in cinemas across the UK.
