Help Your Kids Get Their 5 A Day

We’re always looking for easy ways to get our five a day, particularly for children - so it will be welcome news to parents that the iconic ‘Man from Del Monte’, is now coming to the rescue with a delicious new range of pure juices and juice drinks, complete with tips to get kids enjoying them.

He has scoured exotic climates across the globe, including Costa Rica and Africa, to bring you the best quality fruits for your little ones to help them reach their five a day.

He recognises how demanding kids can be and that getting them to eat their ‘greens’ is an age old battle! So here are his tips to get them to try fruit juices and love them, while unwittingly consuming a glass full off goodness.

1. The juice cup

One way to get kids interested in fruit juice is to either buy or have your child choose one special cup that they like, which will be a dedicated 'Juice Cup'.

The child will look forward to drinking out of the special cup and will add to the enjoyable experience of drinking fruit juice, seeing it as a treat.

2. Practice what you preach

Drink fruit juices yourself around your children, showing them that you enjoy drinking them too. Children love nothing more than mimicking what their parents do, so they can feel like they are doing something that the ‘grown ups’ do.

It will also teach them to incorporate juice into their diets throughout at all stages of their lives.

3. Be creative

There are lots of ways you can get kids enjoying fruit juices in addition to just drinking them. In the summer, get them involved in making popsicles, a cold and refreshing treat which they can have fun making and eating!

4. Offering choice

Children like being given responsibility and the opportunity to make decisions, so why not set up a mini taste test for them to decide on their favourite juice. Allow them to taste three or four of the classic juices such as apple, orange, pineapple and grapefruit and find out what they think of each.

You could even ask them to guess which is which. This will also show them how much choice is available to them.

5. Involve other kids

Another influence on kids is their friends. When your children have friends over to the house, offer them fruit juices instead of fizzy pop and other unhealthy soft drinks. This will help to reinforce the message that fruit juices are enjoyable.
