A headteacher has prevented mums and dads from entering a school playground - stating health and safety reasons.

Parents have been told they will face legal action if the walk through the gates when carrying out the "school run".

A number of them are outraged - and the police were contacted on Monday when some individuals attempted to ignore the ruling at Chase Lane Primary in Dovercourt, Essex.

One mother is quoted as saying in the Sun: “It’s ridiculous. We’ve been taking our kids into the playground for years.”

However the Head, Deborah Carter also added in the British newspaper:“Pupils have complained about overcrowding. So many parents wait on the playground that it’s stopping children enjoying playtime before school.”
