Letters to Santa are a Christmas tradition

Letters to Santa are a Christmas tradition

Research launched by Disney Store highlights the disparity between parents’ fond childhood memories of writing a letter to Santa and those they create with their own children, with a third of parents admitting to having no plans to write a letter with their child (and a further 15 per cent undecided) - despite this tradition being one of their own most treasured memories.

Supporting our local communities is very important to The Walt Disney Company, particularly at this special time of year. For the fourth Christmas running, we are encouraging people to...

Psychologist Honey Lancaster-James, said: "Christmas is a magical time of year for children and a time when families can come together and share in their excitement. For many of us, our earliest memories of letter writing are associated with writing a letter to Santa, usually with the help of our parents, so it's a shame that this tradition seems to be dying out.

"It's important that today's families continue to make memories together and at Christmas they can use their imagination and create a little magic of their own!"

To help the UK’s parents create magical memories with their children this Christmas, Disney Store is today introducing free letter writing workshops and Magical Post Boxes in all of their Stores across the UK as well as an online interactive letter writing experience at www.disneystore.co.uk/sharethemagic

Posting a letter to Santa in the Magical Post Box is part of Disney Store’s ‘Share the Magic’ Christmas charity appeal.

Each Disney Store has partnered with a children’s charity in their local community, and for each letter posted in the Magical Post box, a soft toy will be donated. Disney Store hopes to donate 10,000 toys to children across Europe through this year’s campaign, 6,000 of which will be in the UK.

To date, more than 50,000 children across Europe have benefited from Disney Store’s annual Christmas appeal through charities such as Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Barnardo’s and numerous local hospices.

Teresa Tideman, joint managing director, Disney Store Europe said: “Supporting our local communities is very important to The Walt Disney Company, particularly at this special time of year. For the fourth Christmas running, we are encouraging people to ‘Share the Magic’ at Disney Store in conjunction with local children’s charities, who are thrilled with the support they receive from our guests.”
