If you are a first-time parent, you will probably buy your baby anything and everything within your budget because you don’t know what you will need and what is just a fad. Sadly, we purchased a few items that were barely used, if at all. Here are just a few examples so you don’t make the same mistake.

Muslins- I found that bibs worked far better for absorbing the milk when feeding my baby than the muslins did. The ones we bought ended up just sitting in the drawer unused and eventually we donated them to the charity shop.

Mittens- We bought packs of these before our little girl was born only to find that many sleepsuits already had built in hand covers anyway so these were a complete waste of money. When we did try to put them on our daughter, she wriggled out of them anyway. Plus, they are so mall, you can lose them very easily. Not a great purchase.

Shoes- Babies don’t need shoes because their soles aren’t getting any wear and tear, their feet just need protection from the cold and a sleepsuit can take care of this. Shoes just end up falling off and getting lost. They serve no purpose at this age so it’s best to invest your money in something more worthwhile.

Dummies- Our daughter never took to a dummy, despite our best efforts. We spent a fortune on different brands and designs but none of them worked. Consequently, we ended up with a pile of dummies- all of which she had previously simply spat out after seconds of putting them in her mouth.

Nappy bin- Babies go through so many nappies in a day, you don’t want them stacking up in a bin- you want them out of the house as soon as possible to stop it from smelling. Nappy bins encourage you to let them pile up- so needless to say- we didn’t ever use this product.

Fancy new-born outfits- Although it may be tempting to dress your baby up in cute little outfits, it is more hassle than it’s worth. They are far happier in a vest and sleepsuit because they are comfortable and warm. We bought some beautiful outfits for our daughter but most of them went to the charity shop with their tags still on them; babies need simplicity from their clothes not fuss.

Socks- Again, if you opt for sleepsuits with built in mittens and socks there is no need to buy extras. Socks, much like mittens, are so tiny that they get lost and rarely stay on long because your baby kicks them off.

So, there we have it- I hope I have saved you some money by reading this!
