The NHS are keen to showcase all the offerings that they have for students in the hope that they will consider a career with them.

Students selected by their schools are being given an access-all-areas insight into careers in healthcare from 4-8 July.

The week-long event at the Royal Infirmary will get students to participate in a series of workshops led by professionals, primarily working in Leicester's Hospitals and the University of Leicester.

Bill Morris, director of Leicester Secondary Education Improvement Partnership, says: This is a fantastic project because it will help the students understand the many careers available in healthcare - it's clearly not all doctors and nurses. Plus, the get the benefit of experiencing all this in a hospital setting."

The aim of the event is to demonstrate the diverse range of careers in health sciences and the healthcare sector and to attract young people from all backgrounds to consider studying for these professions by entering higher education.

Dr Hitesh Pandya, paediatric respiratory consultant at Leicester's Hospitals and clinical senior lecturer at the Univerity of Leicester, says: "It is really important for our hospials to engage with younger members of the public and involve them in the design and delivery of their health service, so as part of the programme, we will be asking the students to help us look at how we deliver services to young people with asthma so that they are relevant to our users."
