We Spend Too Much Time With Our Smartphones

New research shows that out smartphones are taking over our lives, becoming priority over time with our loved ones, and even sleep!

The YouGov research, conducted by internet security specialists Kaspersky Lab, found that a staggering 93 per cent of Brits have a smart phone.

A few years ago, no one would have dreamed about taking their phone out at dinner to send emails, but now all that has changed; 60 per cent of Brits admit they have no issue checking their emails when out to dinner.

Twenty two per cent of those surveyed said that their smartphone is the most important thing they take to bed with them.

For some, their smart phone is the most important thing in their life, this was reflected in the survey as 68 per cent of people said they would go without beer, wine, chocolate, shoes, television or even their car for a whole month so long as they got to keep their smartphone.

Despite most of the population owning a smartphone, we Brits are the worst for keeping them secure.

Only 19 per cent of those surveyed had an anti-virus installed on their smartphone and 52 per cent said they had no idea that anti-virus and security software for smartphones existed.

David Emm, senior security researcher at Kaspersky Lab, says, “Smartphones are leaving conventional PCs behind – and for good reason. Can you imagine getting your computer out in the middle of dinner? But you still have to protect it – all of your intimate secrets are within your phone – do you really want that in the wrong hands?”
