Meryl Steep stars in August: Osage County this weekend as Violet Weston, married on-screen to the lovely Sam Shepard, so we take a look at her real life loves.
Streep lived with actor John Cazale for three years (and dated fro seven) until he died in March 1978 of bone cancer- the pair met on the set of The Deer Hunter. She is reluctant to talk about their relationship even now.
Unlike many Hollywood marriage that we have seen come and go Streep has remained faithful to one man for the majority of her life. She married sculptor Don Gummer on 30th September 1978. The pair have four children together: Henry Wolfe, Mamie, Grace and Louise Jacobson. Mamie and Grace followed in their mother’s footsteps and became actresses and Henry is a musician.
When questioned about his wife’s work, Grummer said;
‘You've never considered yourself a star, you get mad and correct the press if they call you that, but you are, and not only in your work, you are the star that lightens my existence.’ [IMDB]
