The nights are cold and dark and snow is on it's way according to the weather reports so for many couples it's the most romantic time of the year.

The Holiday

The Holiday

For those in relationships, there is no excuse not to snuggle up by the fire with a blanket, some popcorn, a bottle of bubbly and a romantic Christmas movie.

For some, this is every Friday night, but for most couples, they reserve this special time for the festive season.

TrueView wanted to find out what couples favourite Christmas movies are and the findings were heart-warming.

Elf! Came out on top and it's no surprise as Will Ferrell really captures the excitement of the build up to Christmas so when you're finished watching it you will will want to crack open the decorations, throw on some music to dance to together or even get your partner to dress up in a Christmassy costume!

Love Actually shows you that not everyone's Christmas is a happy one and things can go wrong at this time of year in relationships thanks to the pressures of the festive season. It makes you appreciate each other when things are going just fine and not take normal life for granted.

It's A Wonderful Life- This is the movie to make couples realise that no matter how much money you throw at Christmas, it's your partner and your family who are the most important. If you both get too involved in the materialistic side of Christmas this will make you think twice about what really matters.

Miracle and 34th Street- For those couples who stopped believing years ago- it's time to start getting swept up in the magic of Christmas again. A gentle reminder that there is nothing wrong with letting your inner child come out- even if you are an adult- embrace the fun together.

The Holiday- Perfect for those couples who got together under unlikely circumstances- look at you now- it was worth being a little unorthodox because you found the love of your life. This film encourages couples to talk about how they met and their early days of dating. Christmas should be a time to share happy memories with one another- even if you've heard the tale a hundred times before!

TrueView co-founder Matt Verity says, ' movies are something that every couple can have an opinion on, and sometimes argue over, but there's no doubting that come winter, there's nothing nicer than settling in for the night with a DVD, a takeaway, and a bottle of wine. Whether you've found your long term partner yet or not, you can learn a lot about someone based on their taste in films!'
