It would seem that if you're trying to regain the spark in your long term relationship or are at the end of your honeymoon period- a break away might help you and your partner to reconnect.

Nearly eight out of ten couples who have booked a break way say they feel better about their relationship when they return.

The answer not only lies in escaping from reality but also the type of holiday you go on. A beach or city break may seem like the way to go, however a study by icelolly.com has found that foodie holidays are more productive with a 96% success rate.

So how can each type of holiday benefit a relationship and why does a foodie one come out on top?

Foodie- Food is something we all eat and is a great thing to bond over- whether that's sharing it, preparing it or talking about it during and afterwards. It's a joint experience and a conversation starter that might lead onto talking about other aspects of your partnership.

Activity- Moving your bodies more creates a surge of endorphins so you are likely to be in a better mood when you have a more adventurous holiday, which will only filter through to each other.

Cruise- This requires little planning by either of you because everything is there in one place and your itinerary might be mapped out for you. This way you can sit back relax, just go with the flow and focus on each other.

Spa Break- If you both have highly stressful jobs, this can be a way to unplug from the real world for a while and slow down the pace. In addition, you can't take your mobile phone into the swimming pool or a steam room so you can't have a cheeky scroll through your emails. There's nothing to do but talk, chill out and make your way around the facilities.

Guided Tour- If neither of you are great at planning days out- this can be the ideal way to get around it by letting someone else feed you the information and show you around the hotspots. But while you're both listening to someone else- it would be rude to talk among yourselves.

Beach- It's relaxing, a time to rub sun tan lotion on each other's bodies and be able to see your partner in a little less clothing, however you may both decide to read a book while lying on the sand which doesn't promote much chatter.

City Break- Often on city breaks all your energies are channelled into your plans and how you're going to get there. It can be a frustrating and tiring time, which leaves little room for nurturing your relationship, especially at bed time when you're both too tired for anything but sleep.
