Queen Elizabeth

Britain's Queen Elizabeth met her great-grandson for the first time today (24.07.13).

The monarch stopped by Kensington Palace this morning to meet the royal baby - who is third in line to the throne - and congratulate new parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, arriving in the back seat of a dark green Bentley.

William and Catherine spent their first night at home with their tiny tot since welcoming him into the world on 4:24pm on Monday afternoon (22.07.13), but are yet to decide on a name.

The queen is said to have squeezed in the 30-minute visit before she heads off to her estate in Balmoral, Scotland, on Friday (26.07.13), according to the Daily Express newspaper.

The 87-year-old royal appeared jovial as she left the residence and headed back to Buckingham Palace alone. Her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, was noticeably absent since he is recovering at Windsor Castle following exploratory abdominal surgery last month.

The queen admitted last week she hoped the baby would hurry up so she could go on holiday for the summer.

Following the announcement of the new arrival, she admitted at a Buckingham Palace reception she was "thrilled" by the birth of the 8lb 6oz "big boy", adding that "the first born is very special".
