When it comes to celebrating one of the biggest holidays in the US calendar, there’s no better place to be than America itself. We’ve teamed up with low-fare, long-haul airline Primera Air which has recently launched transatlantic routes to bring you the best cities to enjoy 4th July:

Boston

Boston

New York City

The city that never sleeps stays wide awake for Independence Day. Those lucky enough to visit NYC on the 4th July are spoilt for choice as there are hundreds of events taking place all around the city’s busy streets to celebrate the big day. Whether it’s stuffing your face with 70 hot dogs at the popular Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Content on Coney Island or admiring the spectacular Macy’s firework show from the various rooftop bars on offer in the city, there really is some sort of celebration on nearly every block.

Washington DC

Washington DC might be the political centre of the US but that doesn’t mean that it lacks in party energy on Independence Day. The nation’s capital puts on extravagant celebrations and for those who want to experience patriotism at its fullest, DC is the place to be. Start the day at the National Independence Day Parade where you can watch the military and marching bands parade through the city. Continue the celebrations at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival where you’ll find concerts, markets and quirky performances. Round off the day with a trip to the National Mall where you can watch the colourful firework display against the skyline of DC’s iconic monuments and memorials.

Boston

A city brimming with history, millions from around the world flock to Boston every year to celebrate 4th July. Boston has the largest Independence Day celebrations in the United States so anyone visiting the colonial city for it will be treated to a buzzing day of events. The city puts on an annual free event called Boston Harborfest where visitors can find Revolutionary War re-enactments, music and harbour cruises. During the evening, those in the city can enjoy the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular – a world-famous fireworks display with a finale of a real cannon fire and church bells ringing throughout the city.

New Orleans

New Orleans – popularly known as one of the biggest party cities in the US due to Mardi Gras and its music-filled soul. It steps up on Independence Day and travellers can visit the bustling French Quarter and then head to Crescent Park for day filled with local food and music. The biggest celebration in the city takes place on the banks of the Mississippi River at the annual Go Fourth on the River extravaganza. Here you can watch an amazing fireworks display complemented by the beat of patriotic music.

San Diego

San Diego is home to many service members, veterans and their families. The Southern Californian City is synonymous with patriotism so a trip to San Diego is a fitting way to celebrate one of the biggest days in the U.S. calendar. Like many other cities on the 4th July, San Diego puts on an impressive fireworks display which is also known as the Big Bay Boom. Visitors can enjoy clear views of the display from many locations in the city including Shelter Island and Marina district. With beautiful beaches and fantastic weather in early July, it’s no wonder why many decide to make the trip to the awesome city for the big day.
