Laura Pradelska

Laura Pradelska hit the jackpot this year with her getting the role of the mysterious Quaithe in the colossal Game of Thrones.

The German actress, who’s picked up rave reviews for he work on stage talked to us about being part of the colossal show and her career so far.

So, I don’t suppose there’s anything at all you could tell us about Quaithe could you?

Sadly not as we are very much sworn to secrecy with regards to our storylines

It’s got to be a real challenge to act under that mask?

It actually wasn’t too bad. The mask was padded from the inside and they took it off in between takes. It had been such an amazing process developing and crafting the mask for the designers that when I finally put it on, I really enjoyed it as I knew how many hours and how much work was put into it.

After getting the role, were you tempted to dive into the books to see what’s coming up for her?

Absolutely. I already had a lot of friends who loved the book and they kindly gave me the first two editions and the rest I ordered on the internet. I am pleased that Quaithe appears in quite a few of the books….but then no character is ever 100 percent safe on the show.

You’ve come into a show that’s become a cultural phenomenon, what’s that been like for you?

Professionally as well as personally it has been the most incredible experience! Not only have I fallen in love with the show as whole, but I also made quite a few friends during the shoot. The show has opened a lot of doors for me career wise and I couldn’t be more grateful.

So, both you and Emilia Clarke from the show both went to the Drama Centre in London, was it good to be able to swap stories with her on set?

It was great to see her on set, she was working extremely hard as she is in so many scenes, so we didn’t have that much time to catch up unfortunately, but she is so lovely and I think she is absolutely incredible as Daenerys Targaryen. Her scenes are definitely some of my favourites to watch.

You were raised in Frankfurt, lived over in LA, what made you stay in London?

I have always loved London as a city and when the opportunity came up to attend drama school here, I took it immediately. It is also much closer to my family who live in Europe and I started missing them…a lot!

You’ve mainly been a stage actor, so what’s your favourite thing about acting in the theatre?

I love the whole process of doing a play. From the phone call that you have been cast, to meeting the cast, staring rehearsals, working on your character, the nerves before opening night and the challenge of entertaining every night and putting on a fantastic show. I enjoy the backstage banter a lot as well and of course the glass of wine after a good show.

It’s always got to be nice picking up awards, like you did at the 2010 Fringe Report Awards?

It was such a magical evening, one I will never forget. My father flew in especially from Germany and was my date for the night. Luckily the ceremony was filmed because I barely remembered anything as I was so nervous and excited all evening.

You’ve also done some voice work, what’s that process like?

It is certainly one of my favourite aspects of my job as an actor as it is challenging, doesn’t require hair and make up and it is very well paid. I usually get booked into a studio for a few hours and get straight behind the mic to start working as studio time is expensive and important. I do everything from commercials to reading books.

So, you’ve got the new series of Game of Thrones coming up, but what’s in the pipeline after that?

Well as an actor, you never really know. I am auditioning as well as producing my own shows through my theatre company Killer Theatre which I co own with my production partner, Amy Tez.
