Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) hit screens late last year in his own new television series, and with him came one of the most intricate, exciting and enveloping storylines in TV superhero history.

Of course what every superhero needs is a group of villains to go up against and prove his worth in immense battles with - so here we've put together a list of five of the greatest villains The Flash has ever faced which we hope will pop up in forthcoming episodes.

Mentions must of course go to Captain Cold, Grodd etc., who we know are going to have pivotal roles going forward, but here's five that haven't been hinted at just yet which we think would make for a good show.

Glider

Beginning life as a villainous and evil ice skater, Lisa Snart was Golden Glider, recently relaunched as simply Glider. She's an incomparable manipulator of the mind, able to possess people and influence decisions. As the sister of Captain Cold - played in the show by Wentworth Miller - now would be the best time to get her involved, alongside her lover and our next member on the list, Mirror Master.

Mirror Master

Always known as a criminal, Sam Scudder - the original Mirror Master - became obsessed whilst behind bars with getting inside a mirror's reflection, and eventually he had the power of developing technology to achieve his goals. This lead to him becoming a master of illusion and with the help of his mirror gun, he'd easily hinder Flash's chances of taking him down on many occasions.

Trickster

Once a circus performer and con-man, James Jesse had a love for inventing genius gadgets before hiding them within items including practical joke elements. His skills mean he has more than once vexed the Scarlet Speedster using a variety of interesting weaponry and inventions, including one of his most notable objects - a pair of shoes which allowed him to walk on air.

Savitar

Whilst flying an experimental plane, Savitar was struck by lightning and found himself embedded with strange Speed Force-related powers, which then encouraged him to begin building a cult around his abilities. Pitting himself against Max Mercury and Johnny Quick, he went on to challenge Wally West (The Flash) but quickly realised this was one opponent he wouldn't be able to steal the speed of. With battles against Reverse Flash going down in comic book history, it would be a nice tie-in with the show now that Zoom himself has made an official appearance.

The Shade

One of the best channelers of the powers embedded within the Darklands, this is a man who can summon and control "demons", shields and areas of complete darkness, even creating structures out of shadows whilst transporting himself and others through them over massive distances. At times he's even been known to use the area as a last-ditch prison dimension. Sufficiently bright blasts of energy can dispell the darkness, but with such experience comes the expertise of being able to create corridors through time. With time-travel being introduced extremely soon in the coming episodes, The Shade may just pop up sooner rather than later.
