American Idol - Amanda Overmyer, became the second of the American Idol finalists voted off the show. The aspiring rocker described by Idol Judge Randy Jackson as "rock and roll nurse," instantly recognisable by her black and white hair and Suzie Quatro voice failed to connect with the viewers.Appearing at times arogant the singer refused point blank to take advice from the three judges, Overmyer remained unapologetic and unwilling to compromise even when advised by music supremo Simon Cowell to be less predictable and maybe sing an odd ballad. Kicking back with "Ballads are boring," adding "I have a minute and a half to show America what they would see if they bought a ticket to my show."Overall she ended up paying the price for stubborness and perhaps her inability to sing anything other than bluegrass rock at full volume. Idol viewers obviously felt her minute and a half did not justify the ticket sales she suggested would come, so its a return to the bars and restaurants back home. The remaining contestants will be trying to sell tickets as well, as part of the "Idol" concert tour this summer. That comes as a relief to Kristy Lee Cook and Carly Smithson, the other members of the bottom-three vote-getters who survived to sing again next week.Overmyer and Cook were the two onstage at the end of the show, waiting for Ryan Seacrest to deliver the verdict. On one side, there was the singer with a memorable personality singing a less-popular style of music. On the other, there was the contestant who Simon Cowell referred to as "musical wallpaper," but undoubtabley has real talent but for some reason struggles to connect with Simon Cowell and the voting public overall, maybe next week she will as she promised to Simon 'blow his sock off'.With 'safe' over ruling 'unpopularity' it was ironic that Kellie Pickler, the girl from small town America famous for not knowing what Calamari was, returning to perform on the "Idol" stage. Kellie Pickler wasn’t one of the stronger talents among season five finalists, but with a bubbly, outgoing personality and clever marketing she has succeeded. The former roller-skating waitress, didn’t miss an opportunity to play the "small-town girl in the big city" card, the audience couldn't get enough of the girl, and though she didn’t come close to winning she did well enough to build a fan base and become one of the more successful of Idol's nearly made its.

Cook needs to learn she already has a good fan base which could build in a similar way taking her to the stardom she seeks. The sippets the audience have about her are intriguing enough; selling her favorite barrel horse to get the money to audition and cage fighting as a hobby, stuff that shows fire and determination... Why so bland then, polite and charming, but every week she’s in danger and yet somehow she stays lets have the fire Kirsty Lee.

The judges agreed with the voting for the bottom two but they had earlier expressed concern that show favorite Smithson had ended up in the bottom three. "She’s one of the best singers in the whole thing, dawg," said Randy. while Cowell told Ryan Seacrest she’s been one of the strongest women in the competition.
