Fans of The Flash across the world looked on in wonder as the first season introduced Gorilla Grodd, with some incredible special effects paving the way for one of the best on-screen digital animals in television history.

Doing this half-assed would have cost the network and the show dearly. Gorilla Grodd is a fan favourite Rogue and so his conception had to be pulled off perfectly. Luckily for viewers, Encore VFX signed up to bring Grodd to life, earning awards off the back of their brilliant work.

Now in a brand new featurette, the company shows just what process they went through to create the fully-computer generated character, going so far as to make the ape's vital organs nestled within his digital skeleton so that realistic movements and gestures by the finished character were better simulated.

As a huge highlight of the first season, it'd be criminal not to see Grodd return at some point in The Flash's TV future, but for now we're going to be treated with two brand new villainous faces.

Atom-Smasher is coming to the show, played by former WWE wrestler Adam 'Edge' Copeland, and Captain Cold's father will be portrayed by Michael Ironside, as viewers are given a little detail on just what led to Snart picking up his icy presence.

The Flash season 2 begins at 8pm on The CW on Tuesday, October 6.
