Another season of the Sky Atlantic drama has been ordered, and stars David Morrissey, Mackenzie Crook, Annabel Scholey and Eleanor Worthington-Cox are all set to return following the second season, which launched in November.

Cameron Roach, Director of Drama at Sky Studios, said: "We are incredibly proud to be able to continue to grow the Britannia franchise bringing Jez and the team's unique and distinctive vision to life for a third series."

Writer Jez Butterworth added: "We're very excited to be continuing our mythic journey through Ancient Britain.

"This year was a particularly good vintage for mushrooms here in the West Country, so we strongly suggest you hold on to your hats."

The first series told the story of the Roman invasion led by General Aulus (David), and the second series joined Aulus two years on from invading the mysterious and Druid-filled land of Britannia.

One of the main hopes for the Druids is Cait (Eleanor), who is being trained by outcast Druid Divis (Nikolaj Lie Kaas), to fulfill a prophecy that would save Britannia from the Romans.

But Mackenzie's two Druid characters, brothers Veran and Harka put the prophecy in jeopardy.

In series three, Aulus will come under pressure from a new, dark force, and Veran will see the future.

It comes nearly two years after 'Britannia' was commissioned for a second series in March 2018.
