The 40-year-old actress has reprised the role of Janine Butcher in the BBC soap, and she's admitted to being blown away by the reaction from fans on social media.

She said: "I have looked at social media to look at the reactions and the welcome I’ve had has been unbelievable - I’ve been totally humbled by everyone. We didn’t have social media when I was on 'EastEnders' before.

"I don’t know how much I’ll stay for - we’ll see how much juice we can see from Janine."

Charlie is relishing her return to Albert Square and she's teased that "fires are coming" over the next few weeks.

Speaking about her return and the challenges of shooting amid the pandemic, Charlie told MailOnline: "It’s great to be back in the Square. Janine is back with a vengeance, fires are coming - the complexities of her ability to love her daughter.

"It’s extraordinary how all the soaps have kept going - it’s much slower than when I was there before which is great. I’m sure we’ll be back to 15/20 scenes a day soon."

Meanwhile, Charlie recently revealed that Janine will bring "drama and chaos" to 'EastEnders'.

The actress teased details of her long-awaited comeback on the BBC soap, admitting she's set to ruffle some feathers.

Asked what she can reveal about Janine's return to the show, Charlie explained: "What can I tell you? High drama. Where Janine goes, drama and chaos usually follow."

Charlie is keen to explore how Janine's character has evolved in recent years and she's also eager to see how she "behaves as a mother".

She said: "She's good at being bad, isn't she? So let's say we can expect a little bit more of that. And also exploring who she is underneath that and ... I think it'll be interesting to see how she behaves as a mother."
