Charlie Brooks is reported to have landed a new role in an American TV show.

The former EastEnders actress who played Janine Butcher in the BBC One soap will be flying out next week to Los Angeles, filming the pilot episode of a new sitcom where she'll play an exaggerated version of Janine.

A source revealed to the Daily Mirror: "This is a great opportunity, Charlie is so ambitious since leaving 'EastEnders, she has been looking for the perfect chance."

However it's not all good news, as Charlie is said to have replaced former co-star Patsy Palmer for the role.

The source continued: "Spending time working in the States is something that Charlie has wanted to do for a long time. Initially Patsy was in talks to take the part but she isn't anymore.

"This has left the door open for Charlie. She hopes that this might be the beginning of some bigger opportunities in Hollywood. She can't wait to get stuck in. There are many more doors that she and her agent have their fingers crossed will open.

"She's not putting a huge amount of pressure on herself but obviously she really hopes she can pull it off."

Joining Charlie will be Michael Greco - another former EastEnders star - in the series based around a relocation service bringing UK stars to LA.

Andy Newton-Lee of Hollyoaks fame is also to star.
