Coronation Street's Steve McDonald is to pop the question to Tracy Barlow - which could see him marry for a seventh time.

The unlucky-in-love cabbie - played by Simon Gregson - will ask the cobbles chatterbox (Kate Ford) for her hand in marriage for a second time in the coming weeks, and if they go on to tie the knot he'll become the most prolific aisle-walker in British soap history.

A 'Corrie' source said: "Steve McDonald might not be the best looking bloke in soap history, but boy has he had some romances.

"In the next few weeks he will be seen going down on one knee to Tracy, who duly accepts."

However, it's not yet known whether Steve and Tracy - who previously tied the knot in 2012 - will marry for a second time.

The source added to The Sun newspaper: "It's the seventh time he's been married, but writers are still to decide if they'll get down the aisle, as love is never straightforward in Weatherfield."

Should the couple tie the knot, Charles Lawson could reprise his role as Steve's father Jim McDonald for the wedding scenes.

Steve's familiarity with being a groom started in 1995 when he married Vicky Arden, against the wishes of her grandfather, cobbles legend Alec Gilroy (Roy Barraclough) and Bet Lynch (Julie Goodyear).

But Vicky ended up leaving Steve in 1996 and divorcing him while he was in prison after he was sent down for handling stolen whisky.

Steve waited until the 00s until he popped the question again, to Karen Phillips (Suranne Jones), and he married her from 2001 to 2003, and they later re-married in 2004 before splitting for good in 2006.

During their one-year break, Steve hopped into bed with Tracy and she went on to have their daughter Amy McDonald (Elle Mulvaney).

Steve was back on the marriage train in 2009, tying the knot with Katherine Kelly's 'Corrie' character Becky Granger, but they split in 2011, and one year later he wed Tracy for the first time.

He was in church again in 2015 to marry Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) and she later gave birth to their son Ruairi prematurely, and the youngster, sadly, did not survive.

Steve and Michelle split up after she discovered he had fathered a son, Oliver, with Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) following a one-night stand.
