The 74-year-old actress explained that her working life is no longer so "stressful" because there's less "competition" from her peers because most of them are no longer around.

Asked if she plans to retire, she told The Lady magazine: "Not at all!

"There’s a kind of relaxation in doing the work you like doing simply for the work itself.

"You're judged only on how you do it.

"When you're younger the competition is much greater. That's quite stressful.

"When you get to my age there aren't so many people left, so there's less pressure.

"You've passed from ingenue to leading lady and beyond.

"If you can be working at 17 and still working at 70-something, you've made it through."

And she also revealed her secret for staying in top form is working out three times a week

She added: "I work out three times a week, a mixture of stretching, yoga and weights.

"I've also mastered press-ups. I'm so pleased.

"Now, if I could only stand on my head."

It was revealed last year that actress Katherine Parkinson was wary of having "big wellies to fill" in the stage version of 'The Good Life'.

The 41-year-old actress took on the role of as Barbara Good - who was originally played by Felicity - in the stage revival of the BBC sitcom, which ran for four series from April 1975 to June 1978.

When it was suggested Felicity "became a sex symbol" off the back of the show, Katherine said: "That's not what I'll be offering, obviously.

"I'm a decade older than she was and I'm not sure that's within my power.

"I'll just try to be funny and tell the story.

"They're big wellies to fill but we're not competing with the original, it's very much a reimagining."
