Fans of the sitcom were stunned to hear one of the main stars, Simon Bird, recently say he thinks the forthcoming sixth series will "probably" be the programme's final season, but creator Robert Popper doesn't want the show to come to a final conclusion just yet.

He said: "That's news to me. Simon said it feels like it could be the last one. Well, I've no plans to end it now."

Robert admitted he will have to have a think about whether he wants to make another series, but he hasn't decided that he wants the show to stop.

He added to RadioTimes.com: "You know, whenever you make a TV series, you always think, 'Well, that's probably our lot' - you never really know.

"But obviously, the show has now become successful, which is lovely.

"So you'd like to think they'd do it again. I think they would. But it's also down to me, if I want to do it again. So I always have to think, 'Do I want to do it again or not?'

"I love writing it. So who knows? I haven't got a thought like, 'I want to end it.' "

His comments come after Simon - who stars as Adam Goodman in the comedy - said he believes the upcoming series could be the last they film together.

He said: "We think this is probably the end of the show.

"Every series it feels more like 'OK, we're ready to say goodbye to these characters - we're really proud of it but we're ready and happy to move on'. But, who knows?"

The show - which also stars Tamsin Greig, Paul Ritter, Tom Rosenthal, and Mark Heap - follows the antics of the Goodman family as they get together every Friday night for a family dinner.
