Trigger Point's Vicky McClure rejected comfy bomb suit option

The 40-year-old actress portrays Metropolitan Police bomb squad head Lana Washington in the ITV series, and she wanted the “incredibly heavy” equipment to feel like the “real deal” when she was shooting the second series.

Speaking at a Q and A attended by BANG Showbiz and other media, she said: "It's not comfy. It's warm and I hate being cold so that I am always grateful for.

"There was a choice this season where costume said, 'We could make something for you', because it's so incredibly heavy. I said no, I just feel like I'm an actor, when they shout cut I can just take the helmet off.

"I think it's important for us to show the real deal.

"The gear wasn't as accessible for women as most of those uniforms are typically made for men.

"The one that frightens me the most is just the ease in which a device can be made and it can be from things that we all have in our cupboards at home and the impact it can have on our lives."

As well as her character dealing with explosive devices in the series, Vicky delved into life behind the camera on 'Trigger Point' by serving as an executive producer.

The 'This is England' star insisted she wasn’t just doing it for a production credit, because she is "really passionate" about executive producing.

She added: "I'm always into that stuff. I'm very nosy. I like to read the entire call sheet and like to know exactly what's going on.

"I want to be able to input into the script.

"I want to be able to input into casting and the day-to-day of a set, making sure everyone's happy.

"I'm not just doing it for the credit, it's something I'm really passionate about."

'Trigger Point' returns to ITV1 and ITVX on January 28th at 9pm.
