The ‘Line of Duty’ actress, 40, is starring in Paramount+’s new thriller series ‘Insomnia’, in which she plays Emma Averill, who starts to have her sanity stretched to breaking point.

A show synopsis says: “A couple of weeks before her fortieth birthday, Emma stops sleeping – just as her mother had done right before she suffered a violent psychotic breakdown on the night of her own fortieth birthday.

“Emma’s mother always told her she’d go the same way, that she had the same ‘bad blood’ and now Emma's terrified it’s true.

AAs events worsen, Emma’s world starts to unravel and she realises that only by investigating the truth of her painful past, can she find the answers to her present and prevent tragedy from striking a second time.”

Emma appears to have a dream life and career before she is plunged into the psychological nightmare.

Paramount+ confirmed ‘Insomnia’ will air in the UK from May 23, and has released as string of teaser photos of Vicky in her role in the lead-up to the launch.

In one image, she is seen in blue pyjamas looking distressed.

The show also stars Tom Cullen as Emma’s husband Robert, with her fellow ‘Line of Duty’ star Leanne Best playing her estranged sister Phoebe.

Corinna Malowe portrays Emma’s mother, with Smylie Bradwell and India Fowler appearing as Emma and Tom’s children Will and Chloe.

The screenplay was by Sarah Pinborough who adapted her novel of the same name for screen and is executive producer of the show.

Additional cast members include Lyndsey Marshal, Dominic Tighe, Jade Harrison, Robert Gilbert and Michelle Bonnard.

‘Insomnia’ is directed by Börkur Sigthorsson, whose previous credits include Sky drama ‘The Midwich Cuckoos’ and the BBC’s Baptiste.
