We're still inching closer to that huge reveal expected in The Walking Dead's seventh season, and though show bosses continue to keep their secrets underwraps as to whose head was bashed in by Negan's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) barbed wire baseball bat Lucille, news about the character and the cast of the show continues to trickle out.

The latest is that Morgan has now been upgraded to series regular status for season 7, with Dwight (Austin Amelio), Jesus (Tom Payne) and Gregory (Xander Berkeley) all also receiving the honour.

Katelyn Nacon, who plays Enid in the show will however remain a recurring cast member going forward.

These additions mean that The Walking Dead now has a whopping 20 series regulars - the most it has ever had at one time - but that number is set to fall to 19 once Negan's season 6 finale victim officially bites the dust.

It's also reported that the casting for comic book character Ezekiel will be announced soon, with the series looking to introduce further source material from the comic series including an entirely new community called The Kingdom.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC in the US and FOX in the UK this October.
