Grey's Anatomy actor Jessica Capshaw has signed a major contract extension worth three years, meaning that Callie and Arizona will be given plenty of time to find their ways back to one another in the ABC medical drama series.

Putting her at Grey Sloan Memorial until May 2018, the show itself has only for now been renewed through the upcoming 2015 to 2016 season.

TVLine reached out for comment from an ABC rep, but was declined with the network's policy of not discussing contract issues cited as the reason for the silence.

Meanwhile, there's no news on her on-screen colleagues contracts, with frequent scene partner Sara Ramirez coming to the end of her current deal next May.

Last month Paul Lee, ABC entertainment president said that he'd like to see the show remain on air for "many, many years to come", adding that it remains "a powerful, vibrant" brand for the network.

It's also a brand that's now entering "uncharted territory" according to series creator Shonda Rhimes, going ahead without Patrick Dempsey's Derek.

Reported earlier this year, former Off The Map leading man Martin Henderson has been recruited to join and fill the void as a handsome new surgeon.
