Jill Halfpenny to star in new Channel 5 thriller The Holiday

The 45-year-old actress will play Kate in the upcoming Channel 5 programme alongside Killing Eve’s Owen McDonnel, who will play her cheating husband Sean.

The four-part drama series is based on author TM Logan’s book of the same name and the story follows Kate heading on her dream holiday with her husband and best friends, but her perfect trip quickly turns into a holiday from hell as her husband’s affair with one of her best friend’s is exposed.

Things quickly take a dark turn when holiday dreams turn into a deadly nightmare. As Kate gets closer to the truth, of which one of her best friends had an affair with her husband, someone in her villa turns killer in order to keep their secrets hidden.

Jill will also be joined in the cast by Lara McDonnel, who will play her teenage daughter Lucy. Her best friends will be played by Hotel Babylon’s Siobhan Hewlett, The Bill’s Cat Simmons and Swedish actress Liv Mjones.

Confirming the role, Jill said: "TM Logan’s novel, 'The Holiday', was such a joy to bring to life and filming with such a talented cast was just fantastic! "Portraying Kate’s dream holiday turn into a nightmare was great fun and hopefully the fans of the book, and those who have yet to discover it, will enjoy the rollercoaster journey we take you on with this gripping thriller.”

Logan’s tome made The Sunday Times’ top ten bestseller list in 2019, where it spent ten weeks in the chart.

'The Holiday' is currently in production and will air on Channel 5 by the end of the year.

Jill’s last role on Channel 5’s 'The Drowning' helped make it the most-watched programme in 2020.

Her other notable roles include Rebecca Hopkins in ITV's 'Coronation Street', Kate Mitchell in 'EastEnders' and Izzie Redpath in 'Waterloo Road'.
