The 53-year-old TV presenter recently returned to her presenting duties while her husband Derek Draper remains in intensive care following his battle with coronavirus.

And the star has now confirmed she is to take some more time off to support her significant other as he continues his recovery in hospital, and to spend time with their children Darcy, 14, and Billy, 11, before they return to school next month.

Confirming the news on the ITV show on Friday (21.08.20), she said: "I'm actually not here next week, I'm taking a bit of time off to help Billy get sorted for secondary school, the children, Darcy as well to get into school. Also Derek, look after things."

Derek, 52, was put into an induced coma in April to help battle the effects of the deadly respiratory disease after experiencing symptoms in March.

And though he has now tested negative for the virus, it has severely damaged his body.

Speaking previously about Derek's condition, Kate said: "There was this feeling of terror because he had Covid and then suddenly it escalated and it was all about his lungs, and then it became evident it was kidneys, lungs, heart, everything.

"Each stage has been a new terror and just when I thought we were moving forward, we now know it can affect everywhere - nerves, everything."

But Kate was able to hold herself together through the terrifying weeks with the help of the 'GMB' crew and co-stars Ben Shephard, Adil Ray and Alex Beresford.

Sharing hosting duties with Alex, 39, she said: "I just want to say thanks to all of you for being absolutely brilliant since I've come back through challenging times.

"Everyone here, you, Ben, Adil and all of the people off and on screen have been amazing. The nice thing is everyone talks about ITV and television being this brutal business, and it 's not. It's a family and you've all been amazing."
