Love Island makes its return to ITV2 for its 2022 series tonight (June 6th), but when the female Islanders make their way into the villa of romance, they’re immediately hit with a twist.
Host Laura Whitmore joins them and, after telling them that it’s time to couple up, drops a bombshell that it is in fact the British public who have been playing Cupid ahead of time.
She explains: "You thought you'd all be stepping forward for the boys you fancy the most. However, this is Love Island and you never know what to expect. For the first time ever, we asked the public to play Cupid and pick the boy they thought you should couple up with."
As the boys then make their entrance and meet the girls for the first time, they are paired one by one, but that's not the only bombshell taking place.
Though they all enjoy getting to know one another on their first day, the night doesn’t get off without anymore twists and turns. As the first new Islander of the series makes his debut – Davide – heads are already turning.
“I was blown away,” says Gemma, whilst Paige says she’s “ready to get married” and “ready to have babies”.
Davide himself is happy with the cast, as he says: "When I walked into the villa, I saw all the girls and I'm really impressed, I'm not going to lie."
The other lads are also feeling the pressure, as Luca confides in the Beach Hut: "Davide! I was thinking I'm the good looking Italian here and then you've sent that geezer through the door."
Breaking the ice with a game of Truth or Dare, which leads to a strip tease from Davide, will he send temperatures soaring and already cause fractures in the couples the public thought should be together?
He'll certainly be forced to break up one couple, as he receives a text at the end of the night which reads: “Davide, in 24 hours you will couple up with a girl of your choice, leaving one boy single and vulnerable #italiansnack #ciaobella”.
Bring on the drama!
