Martin Compston's 'Line of Duty' co-stars bought his baby son a waistcoat just like his 'Line of Duty' character.

The 37-year-old Scottish actor – who welcomed his first child with wife Tianna Chanel Flynn last year – is known for wearing waistcoats as his alter ego, Anti-Corruption Unit Detective Inspector Steve Arnott, and actress Vicky McClure has revealed that the cast presented Compston Junior with his own signature suit apparel.

Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper's Hot TV column, she said: "Martin has already got plenty of waistcoats, so he doesn’t need anymore!

“But when Martin had his baby, we did buy the baby a waistcoat.

“When we film ‘Line Of Duty’ together, we tend to shoot up until Christmas so we always get wrap party presents for each other too and they’re always very thoughtful.”

Martin - who lives in Las Vegas with his wife, son and pet Pitbull dog King - says that Steve Arnott's waistcoats are an integral part of the character's makeup, because he thinks of himself as being like "Sherlock Holmes" when he is investigating.

He said: "The waistcoats are partly because he thinks he’s Sherlock Holmes, one of the great detectives, and partly because he’s the overdressed p***k at work, having all the office affairs.”

His co-stars Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar made sure the sprog had an outfit to match, like father like son.

Show bosses for the hit BBC police show are yet to confirm whether another series will be made,

Show creator Jed Mercurio is yet to confirm whether or not there will be a seventh season of the cop drama.

McClure will next be seen playing bomb disposal operative Lana Washington in upcoming new ITV drama 'Trigger Point', on which Mercurio serves as an executive producer, but she insists the role is different to her 'Line of Duty' character DC Kate Fleming.

She said: “Lana’s personality is very different to my character in ‘Line Of Duty’. They aren’t the same at all. And I’m not playing a police officer in this show. I can’t be worried about taking roles that are in a similar world to ‘Line Of Duty’. This is what actors do.

“But people love ‘Line Of Duty’, so if there are any comparisons it might not be a bad thing."
