The 'Top Gear' host - who has two-year-old daughter Felicity and five-year-old twins Leo and Penelope with 31-year-old wife Christine - underwent a vasectomy last month, and he revealed he was under strict orders to have plenty of alone time over "a couple of months" to make sure he is sperm free following the procedure.

Appearing on ITV's 'Loose Women', Paddy explained: "I had the vasectomy. Any gentlemen who are thinking about it, the thing about a vasectomy - what they don't tell you - is when you have it done, the doctor says you've got to... we're on daytime TV!

"You've got to 'be by yourself' 50 times. So, lads, you have a license to it! It's the doctors orders - you've got a couple of months to do it - so you don't have to sneak off to do it anymore!"

A vasectomy is a surgical procedure for male sterilisation or permanent contraception, to prevent pregnancy, and is usually carried out under local anaesthetic.

The 45-year-old star joked being given the task by the doctor meant it wasn't as enjoyable as it might otherwise have been.

He laughed: "The thing is, because the doctor tells you to do it, it's took the fun out of it because now I feel like I'm doing it on prescription!"

Paddy has been open about the process, and he previously told his Instagram followers that the operation was "a doddle".

He said at the time: "I've gotta tell you, gentleman if you're thinking of having a vasectomy and you're a bit reluctant as I was, the initial anaesthetic, what they give you in the old pippins ... I'm not going to lie, that's tender, oh that's tender.

"That made my eyes water, but after that, honestly, it's a doddle. I'm currently resting up at home with a towel full of ice on the nickedy nackedy noos. Just icing them up, but I'll keep you up to speed."
