The 52-year-old TV presenter has taken to Twitter to announce that he tied the knot with Ingrid over the weekend, revealing that they were surrounded by "wonderful friends and family" on their big day.

Alongside a photo from their wedding day, Richard wrote on the micro-blogging platform: "The most magical, joyful day on Saturday with my beautiful wife @ingridoliver100. Surrounded by wonderful friends and family, a day full of love and laughter. We're so, so happy [heart emojis] (sic)"

Richard - who is the creator and former co-presenter of 'Pointless', the BBC quiz show - has already been inundated with congratulatory messages from some of his showbiz pals.

In response to his original tweet, Victoria Derbyshire wrote: "A.

"MAZE.

"ING.

"So many congratulations to you both! How wonderful [heart emoji] (sic)"

Aled Jones said: "Congratulations to you both x (sic)"

And actress Amanda Redman replied: "Congratulations you lovely people xxx (sic)"

Richard and Ingrid actually met for the first time when she appeared as a guest on his show, 'House of Games'.

He previously explained: "We were doing an episode and my lovely partner Ingrid whose an actress - she's in 'Doctor Who' and all sorts of things - I saw her name on the list and I'd never met her but I thought 'Oh, I quite fancy her' and she agreed to come on the show and I think were desperately trying not to flirt during the show.

"When it comes along and you know is real and you know its true, you feel very lucky."

The pair announced their engagement in May and Richard previously promised that it would be a "very un-showbizzy wedding".

He said: "We're getting married in December, which is lovely and its going to be a very un-showbizzy wedding, just all our school friends. I can't wait."
