The 'Gavin & Stacey' actors will play the titular characters in the brand-new one-off BBC Comedy Playhouse show, which tells the story of Gaynor and Ray Davies, two fifty-something newlyweds from Cardiff who have both married for a second time.

Ruth and David Peet, who co-created and co-wrote the project, said: "We’re delighted to watch 'Gaynor & Ray' come to life on screen.

"Through them we get to see the male and female take on life and relationships as well as the nonsense in the day-to-day."

The 35-minute special will see Ray - whose first marriage ended because he was "impossible to live with "- and Gaynor on their honeymoon to the Scottish Highlands where they meet a variety of characters and situations.

But Ray and Gaynor - whose first marriage ended when she discovered her husband was unfaithful multiple times - only met six months beforehand, and they keep discovering new things about each other.

Gregor Sharp, Commissioning Editor for the BBC, said: "Ruth and David’s portrait of the ups and downs of a new relationship is full of warmth, wit and wisdom and is brilliantly performed by the laugh out loud combination of Ruth and Rob, a match made in comedy heaven.

"We can’t wait for everyone to see it."

It comes after recent Comedy Playhouses for BBC One, 'King Gary' and 'Mister Winner', led to series commissions.

Ruth stars as Nessa Jenkins in BBC sitcom 'Gavin & Stacey', and Rob plays Bryn West, the uncle of titular character Stacey Shipman.
