Variety have reported today (October 2) that Vanessa A. Williams will be joining the cast of The Flash as Iris West's mother and Joe West's wife in the second season of the show, but details about her debut are being kept tightly underwraps.

Known for her roles in Melrose Place and Candyman - the latter of which she starred in alongside Tony Todd who will voice Zoom in the show - the actress is expected to play quite a prominent role in the new episodes coming to The CW and Sky in the next few weeks.
The comic books have seen Iris West adopted and raised by Nadine West alongside husband Professor Ira West, so not much is known about the type of character Iris West's mother will become in the television series.
The Flash season 2 debuts on The CW in the US on October 6, and will make its UK debut on Sky1 on October 13. Check out the trailer for the second season below.
