Coronation Street star Tina O'Brien has committed her future to the ITV soap

The 39-year-old actress has played Sarah Platt on the ITV soap for 17 years and she will be remaining in Weatherfield for at least another 12 months after putting pen to paper on a bumper deal.

A source told The Sun Online: "Tina signed on for another year's contract and couldn't be happier. She sees 'Coronation Street' as her home and loves playing Sarah. Everyone's really pleased and fans will be too."

Sarah - whose mother is Gail Platt, played by 'Corrie' legend Helen Worth - is never far away from a major drama on the cobbles ever since she became a teenage mother to Bethany and entered into a relationship with Todd Grimshaw, who was actually gay.

Tina - who joined the show in 1999, but had a short break between 2008 and 2015 - is set for more must-see moments as her alter ego as Sarah is currently oblivious that her uncle Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) is a murderer who has killed Leo and his dad Teddy Thompkins.

Tina is the latest 'Coronation Street' star to commit their future to the soap.

Sue Cleaver, Alan Halsall, Andy Whyment and Jack P Shepherd - who plays Sarah's brother David Platt - have all signed new contracts to remain on 'Corrie'.
