American Idol

American Idol

American Idol chose this seasons winner and it should be no surprise that Scotty McCreery and his Lock the doors and turn the lights down low, took the title.

McCreey's win after four months and million's of mind numbing “in it to win it!” quotes from Randy Jackson, “American Idol” lifted Scotty McCreery on to the ladder to super stardom. The finale drew 122 million votes with the majority headed to the 17-year-old beating female country singer Lauren Alaina into second spot.

Ryan Seacrest revealed the unsurprising result after the shows 10 p.m. finish time, despite promising to get the results out in time to avoid those who were recording the show missing the result.McCreery was mobbed by the rest of the finalists, before he went to hug his family.

Season ten has been an attempt to re-invent the show moving it away from the sharp bite of Simon Cowell, opening the show to fifteen year olds and above, bringing in a new set of judges and a willingness to allow the noncomforming through. To a degree this seems to have worked as Steven Tyler in particular along with Jennifer Lopez have been successes. My only criticism about the show would be there was a complete lack of criticism. Next season maybe the judges should offer more in the way of opinions even negative ones rather than labelling all contestents 'Hall Of Famers' even those that are clearly not nor never will be.

Both the winner and the runner-up took up the youth mantle that the show was looking to recapture. The two finalists don’t fit criteria of the usual winner this competition.

The rest of the show was filled with the top six finalists singing duets with some of their musical inspirations.

James Durbin dueted with Judas Priest continuing with his goal of bringing metal back to the radio - a tall order, but hey everyone loves a trier.

Carrie Underwood paired with Lauren Alaina, although the song choice was perhaps a little to mature, “Before He Cheats”?

McCreery's duet with Tim McGraw was out of sync, though McCreery himself did well with the performance.

Tony Bennett was back to sing a duet with Haley Reinhart, and Tom Jones performed with the male finalists, other musical acts were Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Marc Anthony, Gladys Knight, Kirk Franklin, TLC, Bono and The Edge.

So given America's love affair with country the two finalists have the potential for a long career in music ahead of them.
