The outspoken hopeful dropped his microphone and stormed off stage during the Six Chair Challenge following a row with Simon Cowell and although that saw him miss out on a place at Nick Grimshaw's Judges' Houses, he could now be set to return following 19-year-old Tom's decision to quit the show.

A source told Mirror Online: "It could be Mason, it could be Nathaniel ... It could be any one of them. No decision [has been] made on this yet. As it stands - they could go with Nick just having five boys or choose a replacement from the Six Chair Challenge."

Tom - who was originally snubbed by Nick Grimshaw before Rita Ora and the booing crowd persuaded him to give him a seat - announced that he'd decided not to go any further with the competition earlier this week.

He said: "Due to personal reasons I have decided to withdraw from 'The X Factor'. Thank you to all the judges, especially Nick for his belief in me.

"I want to wish all the contestants the best of luck and thank you to the public for supporting me and my dream."

Meanwhile, 'X Factor' bosses are reportedly convinced that Jessie J - who was previously a coach on rival show 'The Voice' - persuaded Tom to quit the show after they met up in Los Angeles last week to perform a duet on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show'.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "It seems like a bit of a coincidence that Tom quits the show a few days after meeting with someone who openly hates X Factor."
