The former 'Emmerdale' actress, who played Kelly Windsor on the ITV soap from 1993 to 2000 and again from 2005 to 2011, is set to star alongside Ben Faulks as childless couple Angela and Mark Brown who arrive in Hollyoaks in July hoping to adopt Tom Cunningham and Peri Lomax's baby.

Adele said of her new role: "I'm over the moon to be joining the show as Angela - I've watched it from the beginning so feel like I know everyone already - must remember not to call them by character names!"

Both couples will face heartbreak, however, as it becomes clear Tom still doesn't want his baby to be adopted and neither does his family.

A spokesperson for the Channel 4 soap said: "As the summer continues, Tom wanders down a dark path to deal with the prospect of handing his baby to another couple.

"Meanwhile Peri is still determined to give baby Cunningham-Lomax a 'better life' away from Hollyoaks and their dysfunctional families.

"Both couples face a difficult path ahead."

Ben - who previously starred as Mr. Bloom in the CBeebies children's show 'Mr. Bloom's Nursery' also revealed he's excited to begin filming.

He shared: "I'm extremely chuffed to be joining the Hollyoaks team and looking forward to the time ahead in Liverpool."
