Les Dennis in Coronation Street

Les Dennis in Coronation Street

Les Dennis' 'Coronation Street' character could be getting his own family on the cobbles.

The comedian joined the ITV soap as petty criminal Michael Rodwell earlier this year and he predicts he will stay on the show beyond his initial storyline with Gail McIntyre (Helen Worth) as producers are planning to introduce more characters to join him.

He told BBC Radio 2: "I think [Michael's] going to get a family, which means you might stay if you have a family."

Michael was seen robbing Gail's home in March, but the storyline will take an unexpected turn when the soap stalwart visits Michael in prison and the pair hit it off.

Les explained: "Gail will come and see Michael in prison in a restorative justice storyline. She comes to prison and meets Michael and asks him why he did it.

"He's not a career burglar... he's down on his luck, he's lost his business, his family, everything. Maybe he's not the monster Gail thinks he is."

The 60-year-old star is a lifelong fan of 'Corrie' and previously revealed he couldn't wait to film inside the iconic Rovers Return pub.

He said: "It's been a complete whirlwind. I got the call to come in on a Monday, then did a screen test the following week with Helen Worth before filming. That was awe-inspiring - but when I get to enter the Rovers, I'll be like Charlie in the chocolate factory."
