The news was confirmed yesterday on Paula's Twitter account, where she wrote:

The Coronation Street official Twitter account confirmed the news, posting a picture of Paula back at the studios in Trafford.

Paula and her husband Tom Shaw welcomed the arrival of their baby boy on New Year's Eve.

Scenes were aired on Christmas Day on the cobbles as her character's husband David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) kicked her out of the house after learning her drug dealer was her ex-boyfriend Callum Logan (Sean Ward).

Since then, David has been unable to get back into contact with the troubled mother and her whereabouts are currently unknown.

Upon Kylie's return to Weatherfield, she'll be shocked to find David and Callum locked in a bitter and malicious custody battle over her son Max, and further surprises come when she realises Callum is dating David's returning sister Sarah (Tina O'Brien).

Producer Stuart Blackburn explained in January: ""[Kylie is] going to come back right in the middle of the custody battle and she'll come back realising that because of her using drugs, because of her disappearing act, she might be losing Max forever.

"So there's big stuff for her. She's going to have to get her act together, she really is."
