The 'Coronation Street' actor - who spent the night in a jail cell in Kendal on Saturday night (24.10.15) after he was involved in a fight in a pub toilet - has been branded a "hero" for dragging a schoolboy to safety after he fell into a river.

The boy's mother Sandra Buckle said Ryan saved her eight-year-old son Jack when he fell in the caves at Rydal in the Lake District.

She said: "We were out walking on Saturday afternoon and Jack was acting up a bit. So we walked out the caves a bit to get him to follow us, you know how you do.

"We then heard Jack yell in the caves and ran back. He had slipped on the ricks and fallen face down into the water.

"Before we knew it, Ryan was there and he scooped him up out of the water. We didn't even realise who it was at that stage, we just knew he was a hero."

Ryan had been enjoying a hiking trip during a weekend away when he bravely rescued Jack.

However, his trip soon took a turn for the worst when he was arrested and fined £90 for allegedly being drunk and disorderly after a row broke out at the Wheelhouse Club and Lounge in Bowness-on-Windermere.

Cumbria Police said in a statement: "Officers arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly."
