The first season of Sex Education ended with a plethora of unanswered questions, so you can imagine my delight to learn that Netflix had renewed the critically-acclaimed series for a second outing.

Laurie Nunn’s creation follows socially awkward schoolboy Otis Milburn, played by Asa Butterfield, as he and ‘bad girl’ Maeve Wiley, played by Emma Mackey, set up a sex clinic in order to help their fellow students with their unusual sexual problems. The show also stars Gillian Anderson as Otis’ mum, Dr Jean Milburn, who frequently intrudes into Otis’ sexual affairs.

Season 1 was utterly addictive, with its perfectly immature humour and its peculiar but sensational plot. With season 2 now being given the green light, here are five things that we should see:

There will be spoilers ahead!

1. The development of Otis' and Ola's relationship

Otis and Ola finally shared a kiss in the season finale. It was rewarding to see that Otis had finally taken his first steps into a relationship that avoids the sexual anxiety and pressure he constantly experiences. Otis will finally feel the benefits of independence and solidarity, as he can explore the ups and downs of a relationship, without the scrutiny of his analytical mother. It will be exciting to see how the relationship develops as their first kiss finally evoked a certain sexual freedom within Otis; something that he struggled to express early on in the season.

2. How Maeve's feelings for Otis progress

Throughout the majority of season 1, Otis fell victim to unrequited love. His feelings for Maeve were unreciprocated, especially with her being in an open relationship with popular school student Jackson Marchetti. However, vibrant signs alluded to the possibility of Maeve finally falling for Otis. Despite being a practised introvert, she began to show compassion in his presence; she sentimentally kept his jumper and she even initiated a kiss, which Otis hilariously halted. Her feelings were confirmed when she marched to his house in order to reveal her feelings, only to come across Otis and Ola’s first kiss. With the tables being turned it’ll be interesting to see the progression of Maeve’s feelings for Otis. Will she tell him? Or will she be happy for him? I can’t wait to see.

3. Jean to be happy with Ola's father, Jakob

When it comes to relationships, Jean seemed to string on a lot of men, purely for one-night stands. However, when Jakob enters the scene to fix her sink, an unescapable bond seems to be formed between the pair. They fool around and an insecure Jean rejects his offer to make things official and as a result, Jakob leaves. However, the last time we see the pair together they give in to their urges. You can’t help but want nothing more than the pair to be together considering Jean is evidently damaged from her ex-husband’s affair. Unfortunately, Otis asks his mother not to have a relationship with Jakob as he is Ola’s father. Despite this, I want to see how the relationship affects Otis. Will it divide the Milburn family? Or can both relationships co-exist perfectly? We’ll have to wait and see, but I hope the end result benefits Jean. Fingers crossed.

4. To see more of Eric and Adam

We last saw Adam being whisked away to military school after an unexpected romp with Eric. Their romance evolved from a toxic relationship, where Adam relentlessly bullied Eric. Their personal journeys differed, with Eric venturing onto a path of self-discovery whilst Adam struggled under the pressure of being the headmaster’s son. Their conflicted relationship blossomed into something more romantic towards the end of the season. Hopefully, season 2 will reveal the consequences of Adam’s exile and how it affects Eric. Both of them suffered massively due to their social status, so it’ll be rewarding to see them in the comfort of each other’s arms in the upcoming season. We're all rooting for these guys!

5. Maeve to remain at school

Maeve’s future at the school remains uncertain due to her claiming to deal drugs at the school prom when it was actually her brother. She jeopardised her promising future to protect her sibling. It was so frustrating to watch this as her brother tended to manipulate her. To make matters worse, he even left her at the end of the  season, leaving Maeve to face the consequences of his actions. I hope seasons 2 brings the best out of Maeve. I hope she remains at school and takes the university scholarship offered to her. She most definitely deserves it.
