I am a huge fan of almond milk and no longer drink any other kind of milk. Especially the unsweetened varieties as they are low in carbs, contain no sugars and just a few calories per 100 ml.

Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Nutri + Calcium

Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Nutri + Calcium

When I heard that this is first almond drink of its kind in the UK, I just had to try it out.

My usual variety of almond drinks is also fortified with calcium; it contains around 120mg of calcium per 100ml, so 240mg per 200ml.

This new product has an impressive 400 mg per 200ml glass so almost double. That equates to 50% of your daily requirement.

So, if you don’t really want to tuck into eleven cups of spinach or five and half cups of cooked broccoli- you can have a drink of this instead get the same amount of calcium. I know which I would rather have.

This is of course great news for vegans who might be worried about their calcium intake. I know I am, which is why I take a supplement- so by combining the two, I have to worry far less about trying to make up the difference in the foods I eat of the rest of the day.

There has been a distinct rise in people who want to adopt a dairy free diet after the barrage of media reports on the detrimental effects of drinking milk from animals, so it no surprise that companies are competing for the best substitute.

I chose to have it on my corn flakes for breakfast as there is nothing like the cold, creaminess of almond milk against the crunchiness of the cereal with a hearty glass of orange juice to wash it down. The perfect breakfast combo if you ask me. there are other uses for it of course- you can pop it over your overnight oats, have it in your brew or even mix it in with some fruit to make a smoothie. It all depends on your preference- I’m just old fashioned.

In terms of taste, I couldn’t tell the difference between this and the original Blue Diamond varieties of almond milk so if that’s what you generally buy, you won’t notice any change in flavour.

Another bonus is that it’s unsweetened, so it’s only 13 calories per 100ml and that’s not going to break your daily calorie quota even if you indulge in a large glass of the white stuff.

The only negative I can say about this product is that it’s only sold in Waitrose right now. Sadly, I don’t live near one so I am currently unable to get my mitts on any more of this. But if they were to scale it out to say- Asda- I would definitely buy it again.
