Ewan Mcgregor And Cat Deeley Launch Unicef Campaign To Help Save The Lives Of 1,000 Mums

1St april 2011: today, in the run up to mothers day, ewan mcgregor and cat deeley launch unicef uk’s campaign to help save the lives of 1,000 mums.

As ambassadors of the world’s leading children’s organisation, cat and ewan are calling on people across the uk to make a difference to the lives of 1,000 mums, by buying their mum a unicef ‘deliver a baby’ gift pack as their mothers day gift.

The aim is to sell 1,000 life-saving packs by sunday, to highlight the number of women who will die on that day, and everyday, due to complications in pregnancy and childbirth.

At just £24, the unique gift contains all the medical equipment needed to safely deliver a baby and help give a mum across the world the chance of a future with her newborn child.

Although great progress has been made in reducing maternal mortality, childbirth  remains one of the leading causes of death amongst women in the developing world. Due to a lack of access to basic medical care and support, often stemming from poverty, nearly 1,000 mums die each and everyday as a result of pregnancy related complications.

Commenting on the campaign, unicef uk ambassador ewan mcgregor said: “this mothers’ day I’ll be showing my mum just how much she means to me by buying her a gift with a difference – one that will give another mother and her newborn child the chance of a future together. It is completely and utterly wrong that 1,000 mums lose their lives everyday as a result of pregnancy and childbirth, and I urge you to help us put it right, by supporting unicef to deliver a life-saving pack to 1,000 mums around the world.”

Unicef uk ambassador cat deeley added: “on the day when I celebrate and spoil my mum, and thank her for the love, care and support she has given me, nearly 1,000 other mums will see their lives slip away from them because they can’t access the most basic medical care. This is wrong.  On mother’s day help unicef put this right by buying a gift that could save the life of a vulnerable mother in one of the most fragile communities in the world.”

It’s wrong that many mothers and babies won’t ever spend a mothers’ day together. Help put it right and buy a unicef inspired deliver a baby pack today.

All unicef inspired gift are real lifesaving supplies, so your gift will be delivered directly to a vulnerable mother and her baby across the world.
