Peter Crouch has joked he was the ‘alien’ recently spotted on a remote Brazilian island

The lanky footballer appealed for privacy after footage of the beanpole “extra terrestrial’ went viral I January when it was caught on camera by eyewitness Sara Dalete while she was out hiking with her family.

Peter, 42, who stands at 6ft 7ins tall, told fans online who compared it to him: “We were on a family holiday. Please respect our privacy at this time.”

The ex-England, Tottenham and Liverpool striker has two daughters and two sons with model wife Abbey Clancy, 38, who is 5ft 9ins.

He’s famed for his signature ‘robot’ goal celebration, which bears a resemblance to bizarre arm movements made by the hilltop ‘creature’ in Brazil, which was said to be 10ft tall.

Sara who filmed the ‘alien’ had said it wasn’t possible to reach the hilltop where they were or communicate with them.

The government of Paraná State made light of the alleged sighting, with a spokesperson saying: “Our summer is from another world. Even strange beings come here to enjoy our coastline.”

The ‘being’ was captured during a mountainous hike in the Brazilian island of Ilha do Mel.

But it has turned out the truth behind it could be more earth-bound.

Following days of speculation, Italian basketball star Felipe Motta claimed to be the ‘alien’.

Felipe, who plays for Brazil’s Flamengo club, said: “I went on a trail to enjoy nature and this view.

“But then people took a photo of me, sent it to the gossip page and called me strange.”

Felipe, who stands at 6.5ft tall says he often gets teased about his height but added about being compared to the alien by some fans online: “Some things have to stop.”
