January is notorious for being a miserable month, and if Blue Monday is real, it would make sense that as we reach the end of it, we are all just about done with winter.

Will you be welcoming in Spring with open arms?

Will you be welcoming in Spring with open arms?

As the financial struggles start to kick in and the miserable weather begins to rub off on our moods, it’s important to focus on the positives at this time of the year.

So, to help get you through the final hurdle of January, here are 7 things to look forward to once everybody’s least favourite month is out of the way.

Payday

Hurrah! Super-careful budgeting is nearly over.

Everybody loves payday, but the first one of the year definitely feels the most well-deserved.

The festive period really takes its toll on our bank accounts and it’s in January when it hits the hardest. Sometimes it can make us question whether a month of indulgence and over-spending is really worth the month of financial struggles that comes afterwards. But with the good we must take the bad – and thankfully the end is in sight!

As most people get paid on the last week of the month, we can start enjoying ourselves a bit more come February.

Longer days

Longer days are coming! If you’re anything like us, you’re on countdown until the clocks go forward – but the days are still getting longer with every 24 hours that pass.

It may not be noticeable, but soon enough you’ll be waking up to lightness and finishing work before it turns dark.

Pancake Day

Shrove Tuesday isn’t too long away. Of course, you can enjoy pancakes all year round, but saving them for pancake day gives us something to look forward to. Oh, and lots of recipe planning in the meantime.

We suppose we could just try a few different toppings while we wait…

Spring

Although the bitterly cold weather may make it feel like we are still in the deep swings of winter, now the festivities are out of the way and January is coming to an end, we can focus on welcoming in the Spring season.

It won’t be long until the trees are blossoming, and we don’t have to wrap up in 18 layers to brave the outdoors.

The mere thought of this is making us feel better!

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day shouldn’t just be about being in a relationship. It doesn’t matter if you’re single or in a relationship, the 14th of February should be about celebrating all the people in your heart.

If you have a significant other, plan a special date night to look forward to.

If you’re single, why not plan to do something lovely just for yourself that week? Or have a night with your friends and celebrate your love for each other? As long as you spend it doing something you love, surely that’s the main thing?

Baby animals

Who doesn’t love baby animals? Cute little bunnies, piglets and chicks are born in the Spring, surely that has to cheer you up?

Make the most of it and visit a farm as it gets closer to Spring. Enjoy the fresh breeze and the sunshine surrounded by nature’s most beautiful.

Exercising outdoors

Exercising in the winter is awful – unless you’re a robot! It’s a known fact that people find it a lot more difficult to get themselves motivated to work out during the winter months. But exercising is a natural anti-depressant, so having a regular fitness regime is a great pick-me-up.

As January draws to a close, we can look forward to better weather to workout outdoors. Jogging, hiking and long strolls become a fun pastime rather than a reluctant chore. And the benefits of exercising alone make everything better.

We’re almost there, readers! Keep at it – you’re doing great!
