The Halftime show is almost as big as the Super Bowl itself. This year, the big game is scheduled on February 3. More and more people will now tune into the Super Bowl, even if they don’t really care for American Football, just to watch the halftime show.

This year, Maroon 5 will headline the show, along with Travis Scott and Big Boi, who have also been selected to play the most-watched musical event of the year.

Previous Halftime performances have come from the likes of Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Prince and Bruno Mars.

Because Maroon 5 are the main headline act this year, we have decided to have a look at seven other bands who have graced the stage of the Halftime show.

But first, let’s take a look at this years acts, and what we can expect from them.

Who are Maroon 5?

The American pop rock band are from Los Angeles, California. Most people will recognise the lead vocalist, Adam Levine, but the group are also made up of Jesse Carmichael (keyboardist and rhythm guitarist), Mickey Madden (bassist), James Valentine (lead guitarist), Matt Flynn (drummer), PJ Morton (keyboardist) and Sam Farrar (multi-instrumentalist).

Their latest hit was Girls Like You, featuring Cardi B, and was released last year. But they’ve been on the music scene since 1994 (pretty good going as far as boy bands are concerned!)

Who is Travis Scott?

Travis Scott is an American rapper, born in Houston Texas. The 26-year-old achieved his first Hot 100 number 1 single with Sicko Mode. He’s been nominated for six Grammys so far throughout his musical career.

Who is Big Boi?

Big Boi is an American rapper, songwriter, actor and record producer who is best known for being a member of the hip hop duo Outkast - alongside Andre 3000. He will be joining Maroon 5 and Travis Scott during the halftime performance.

Who is singing the National Anthem? - Gladys Knight, known as the Empress of Soul, will be performing the National Anthem this year. She’s been on the music scene since 1952 and has achieved a huge career - even dipping outside of music and into acting, writing and business. She is known best for the massive hit, Midnight Train to Georgia and also recorded the James Bond theme song for the 1989 film Licence to Kill.

So that’s who is lined up to perform this year, but who have they got to live up to? Here are seven other bands that have performed for the Super Bowl Halftime show.
