A new study hopes to prove that applying caffeine to skin, whilst in the sun, may help to prevent skin cancer.

US researchers hope to prove that caffenine prevent UV damage, as well as helping us all to awaken in the morning.

The experiments on mice found that tumours took longer to develop and that there were fewer of them.

However, other experts have warned that there could be an adverse effect on other cancers by using caffeine in this way.

The caffeine was not directly applied to the skin of the mice, instead they genetically modified the animals. So further studies would be needed to show any possible protective effect in humans.

The study said: "At any given point in time the average number of tumours in [modified] mice was significantly lower.

"Caffeine application could be useful in preventing UV-induced skin cancers."

I think I'll just stick to SPF30 for now.
