Focus on yourself for once

Focus on yourself for once

Ever wondered where all of your spare time goes? And think that you're doing the same things day-in day-out?

Well, it's because you most likely are.

Women in UK have very few interests outside of their work and home lives. Due to a lack of time, most have no hobbies to speak of outside of going to the gym or the pub.

According to new research, conducted by Nikon, 83 per cent of us do wish that we were more interesting but some still do think that they don't have the time for it.

It's therefore unsurrising, that one in four said that they would take up a hobby which would enable them to spend more time with their family.

Dr Glenn Wilson, consultant psychologist, says: "Women have been told that they can have it all, but living up to that ideal simply isn't possible. What's needed is a balance. It's clear that for those women with children being able to intergrate their hobby with family commitments is emtremely important.

"Learning a new skill and developing a talent can increase your confidence and well-being. You can even meet new friends by taking your new skill and joining a club. Taking up a hobby that you can work around your family and social commitments could be the secret to a more well-rounded lifestyle."

Photography was the most popular choice for aspiring hobbyists, with almost one third saying it would be their top choice of interests to pursue. This was followed by running, then jewellery design and cooking.

Jeremy Gilbert, group marketing manager at Nikon UK, says: "Hectiv lifestyles are often an excuse for not having an interes, but having a regular hobby is a great wat of relieving stress and promoting well-being by having a bettwe work-life balance.

"Photography is an ideal hobby because it can be done anytime, anywhere and with anyone. It's also very creative so it gives people the opportunity to experiment and do different things as well as feelin like they are developing a noteworthy and interesting pastime that they can share with their friends and family."
