It's caused by coming into contact with the fungus and is more likely to develip on the feet because of the moisture of shoes often provides an ideal condition for fungal growth.

With the help of Lamisil, the over the counter range that helps to soothe and treat the infection, we have all of the information that you need to know.

Make sure your feet are ready for summer.

What is Tinea Pedis?
Otherwise known as ‘Athlete’s Foot’; it is a very common fungal infection affecting the skin on your feet.

How common is it?
Athlete’s foot is a very common condition which anyone can develop. However it has been found to be more prevalent amongst men and teenagers, and relatively rare in children under 12 years old.

What are the causes?
Athlete’s foot is caused by a fungal infection in one or both feet. Many fungi are commonly found on the body and cause no harm. However, if conditions are right (i.e. warm, moist) the fungus may multiply and cause an infection. Athlete’s foot can spread through direct or indirect contact, and thrives in warm, moist environments. Therefore showers, swimming
pools and changing rooms are common places where the infection is often passed on.

What are the symptoms?
Often, the first symptoms to look out for are a rash, usually in the spaces between your toes, which causes your skin to become itchy, flaky, dry or red. You may also notice cracked skin, blisters, swelling, or a burning/stinging sensation in your skin. In worst case scenarios, and
if it remains untreated, the infection can spread to other parts of your body, such as your hands. Untreated cases can lead to complications such as a bacterial infection.

How do I treat it?
If treated the infection should usually only last for a few days or weeks. It is commonly a mild infection which is fairly easy to treat; responding well to self care antifungal medication.

Treatment options:
Antifungal medicines come in a variety of different forms and Lamisil® have a range of products available to suit all individuals, including:

• Antifungal creams e.g. Lamisil AT Cream: also a popular choice which can help moisturise cracked skin.
• Antifungal sprays e.g. Lamisil AT Spray: an easy to use, convenient hands-free option for when you’re on the go.
In more advanced or resistant cases of athlete’s foot, an oral antifungal course of treatment may be the best course of action.
